Valentino Rossi berada di Milan untuk menikmati masa libur balapan MotoGP. Ia menyempatkan diri untuk mengisi acara radio di kota tersebut.
Pada Februari 2019, Rossi akan memasuki usia 40 tahun. Hal tersebut membuat sejumlah kalangan ragu dengan kemampuan Rossi untuk bersaing mengejar gelar.
Namun, Rossi memastikan kalau ia masih memiliki gairah untuk membalap.
“Movistar Yamaha telah memulai musim 2019. Kami telah menunjukkan motor M1 yang akan digunakan. Kami akan memulai persiapan dalam waktu dekat,” ujar Rossi.
“Selama masa libur, saya menghabiskan waktu di luar lintasan. Pada pekan lalu, saya baru kembali berlatih di gym.”
“Saya tidak pernah memikirkan berapa usia saya dan juga usia yang pantas untuk terus berkarier di MotoGP. Namun, saya tidak yakin masih bisa kompetitif pada usia 40 tahun.”
“Hal yang pasti adalah saya selalu ingin membalap,” ungkap Rossi.
Valentino Rossi masih terikat kontrak dengan Movistar Yamaha hingga 2020. Pada musim 2019, Rossi masih akan berpasangan dengan Maverick Vinales.
Seri pertama MotoGP 2019 akan berlangsung di sirkuit Losail, Qatar pada 10 Maret. Pada MotoGP 2018, Valentino Rossi menempati peringkat ketiga pada klasemen akhir setelah Marc Marquez dan Andrea Dovizioso. Pada musim 2019, Valentino Rossi kembali menjadi pembalap tertua di MotoGP.
