Matt Nadin membeli sebuah paket makan yang berisi burger lengkap dengan kentang goreng dan milkshake cokelat pada bulan November 2018. Bukan malah memakannya, Matt bersama temannya yang bernama Andy Thompson meletakkan makanan tersebut ke dalam kotak Tupperware.
Kemudian menguburnya di kebun belakang Andy di Barnsley, Yorkshire Selatan, tepat sebelum ulang tahun Matt yang ke-39. Matt berniat untuk mengambil makanan itu pada hari ulang tahunnya yang ke-40 pada November tahun 2019 lalu.
Namun ia baru sempat menggalinya kembali baru-baru ini karena berbagai kesibukan, yang berarti makanan tersebut telah dikubur di bawah tanah selama 14 bulan.
Meski sudah lewat dari hari ulang tahunnya dan makanan itu telah dikubur selama 14 bulan, Matt tetap bertekad untuk memperingati ulang tahunnya dengan aksi yang tidak akan pernah ia lupakan. Kemudian Matt membawa makanan yang sudah berjamur tersebut ke restoran tempat ia awalnya membelinya.
Setelah duduk di tempat makan yang disediakan di restoran, Matt mulai melakukan aksinya. Ia menyantap makanan kadaluarsa tersebut dengan perlahan. Momen menyantap makanan basi tersebut diabadikan Matt lewat video dan diunggah di YouTube Matt dan Andy.
