BERITA RAKYAT – Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo menjadi juara Indonesia Masters 2020 setelah mengalahkan Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan 21-15 dan 21-16 dalam laga final di Istora Senayan, Minggu (19/1) sore WIB.

Pertandingan all Indonesian final dalam sektor ganda putra merupakan laga ketiga yang digelar setelah ganda campuran dan tunggal putri.

Pukulan keras Hendra menjadi sumber poin pertama bagi pasangan The Daddies. Permainan depan Ahsan/Hendra yang cekatan membuat mereka unggul 6-2.

Penempatan-penempatan ganda juara All England itu memang menyulitkan Marcus/Kevin, namun sang juara bertahan tak lengah begitu saja. Minions menyamakan kedudukan menjadi 7-7 dan sempat berbalik unggul.

Perburuan poin dua ganda putra teratas dunia itu berlangsung ketat. Sempat tertinggal satu poin pada saat interval, Marcus/Kevin mampu membalikkan keadaan menjadi 13-12.

Keunggulan Marcus/Kevin sempat melebar menjadi tiga poin. Kesalahan pengembalian bola menjadi masalah bagi Ahsan/Hendra yang menguntungkan juniornya. Marcus/Kevin menyudahi gim pertama dengan kemenangan 21-15.

Pada awal gim kedua Marcus/Kevin tampil lebih agresif. Serangan dari pasangan yang disatukan pada 2015 itu berkali-kali membuat pertahanan Ahsan/Hendra bobol.

Eror dari Ahsan/Hendra turut membuat Marcus/Kevin unggul jauh. Skor 5-0 melebar menjadi 7-2. Pada saat interval, Marcus/Kevin memimpin 11-3. Setelah jeda justru performa Marcus/Kevin yang menurun. Ahsan/Hendra meraih enam poin beruntun.

Pasangan senior itu kemudian perlahan mendekati perolehan poin Marcus/Kevin. Jarak satu poin terjadi pada kedudukan 15-16 dan 16-17. Ahsan/Hendra gagal mengembangkan permainan dan terkunci di angka 16. Marcus/Kevin mempertahankan gelar Indonesia Masters dengan kemenangan 21-16 pada gim kedua.

Marcus/Kevin meraih gelar ketiga di ajang BWF World Tour level 500 itu. Sejak 2018, salah satu pasangan pelatnas PBSI itu selalu menjadi kampiun di Indonesia Masters.
