BERITA RAKYAT – L’Oreal tidak akan lagi menggunakan kata ‘pemutih’ atau ‘pencerah’ pada kemasan produk-produk perawatan kulit. Perusahaan kecantikan asal Prancis ini mengambil perubahan besar tersebut demi mendukung kesetaraan ras.
Dalam pernyataan tertulis seperti yang dilansir Associated Press, L’Oreal menyebut bahwa nantinya label ‘whitening’ atau ‘lightening’ tidak akan ada lagi di kemasan produk.
“L’Oreal Group telah memutuskan untuk menghilangkan kata white/whitening, fair/fairness, light/ligtening dari semua produk kulit untuk malam hari,” tulis L’Oreal.
Seperti dikutip dari Fox News, krim pencerah kulit keluaran L’Oreal termasuk produk yang paling populer dengan target pasar orang Asia, Afrika dan Karibia.
Perubahan ini pun semakin menguatkan sinyal bahwa L’Oreal yang merupakan salah satu perusahaan raksasa kecantikan di dunia ingin berkomitmen melawan stereotipe ras. Bahwa kulit putih dan cerah itu cantik, sementara kulit gelap dianggap kurang menarik.
Sebelumnya Unilever juga telah mengumumkan akan mengganti label salah satu brand mereka, ‘Fair & Lovely’. Brand tersebut juga terkenal sebagai krim pencerah kulit di pasar Asia. AyukTraveling
Di India sendiri, penjualan produk ‘Fair & Lovely’ mencapai USD 500 juta pada tahun lalu. Kini dengan ramainya aksi Black Lives Matter, Unilever sedang mempertimbangkan untuk membuat produk dan kampanye yang lebih global.
“Kami berkomitmen penuh untuk mempunyai portofolio global sebagai merek skincare yang inklusif dan peduli terhadap semua warna kulit, menghargai keberagaman kecantikan yang lebih luas. Kami menyadari bahwa penggunaan kata ‘fair’, ‘white’ dan ‘light’ mengesankan hanya satu makna tunggal tentang kecantikan ideal yang menurut kami tidak tepat, dan kami ingin menangani ini,” jelas Kepala Departemen Beauty & Personal Care Unilever Sunny Jain.
Langkah serupa tapi tak sama dengan L’Oreal juga diambil Johnson & Johnson. perusahaan kecantikan asal New Jersey, Amerika Serikat ini akan setop menjual produk pencerah kulit dari brand Neutrogena dan Clean & Clear di Asia dan Timur Tengah.
Johnson & Johnson akan berhenti menjual lini Fine Fairness dari Neutrogena yang tersedia di Asia dan Timur Tengah. Sementara dari brand Clean & Clear, lini yang akan disetop penjualannya adalah Clear Fairness, dijual secara eksklusif hanya di India.
