BERITA RAKYAT – Setidaknya 13 pemberontak di Rakhine tewas di tangan tentara Myanmar dalam serangkaian bentrokan yang kian panas sejak awal tahun.
“Antara 5 sampai 16 Januari, ada tiga bentrokan dan lima peledakan tambang. Ada 13 jasad musuh dan tiga senjata disita, dan beberapa tentara tewas dan terluka,” ujar seorang juru bicara militer Myanmar, Tun Tun Nyi, sebagaimana dikutip Reuters, Jumat (18/1).
Tun Nyi menolak membeberkan jumlah tentara yang tewas karena “tak penting” untuk diketahui angka pastinya.
Kelompok pemberontak terbesar di Rakhine, Tentara Arakan (AA), belum dapat dihubungi, tapi soerang juru bicaranya sebelumnya mengatakan bahwa lima jasad yang ditemukan militer bukan anggota mereka.
Rangkaian bentrokan terbaru ini bermula pada 4 Januari lalu, ketika pemberontak menewaskan 13 anggota kepolisian di empat pos keamanan saat perayaan Hari Kemerdekaan Myanmar.
Utusan khusus Perserikatan Bangsa-Bangsa untuk hak asasi manusia di Myanmar, Yanghee Lee, pun meminta kedua belah pihak untuk menahan diri demi menghindari peningkatan ketegangan.
Lee mengecam serangan Arakan dan “respons tidak layak” dari militer Myanmar menyusul laporan bahwa kedua pihak menggunakan senjata berat juga helikopter di daerah padat penduduk sipil.
“Saya juga sangat khawatir dengan retorika berbahaya yang digunakan pemerintah. Populasi etnis Rakhine tak boleh digambarkan seperti setan dan menjadi target militer karena kecurigaan keterlibatan dengan AA,” kata Lee.
Pemerintah Myanmar sendiri sudah meminta militer untuk menghabisi AA yang anggotanya kebanyakan direkrut dari kelompok etnis Buddha di Rakhine.
Dalam rapat pada Jumat, penasihat negara Myanmar, Aung San Suu Kyi, memerintahkan langsung penggempuran terhadap AA dan mengatakan bahwa kelompok itu harus diperlakukan sama dengan Tentara Pembebasan Arakan Rohingya
